WORKING WITH YOU FOR THE NORTH WEST OF CHRISTCHURCH
Who are we - Ko Wai Mātou
Norwest Sport and Community Hub Incorporated is a new sport, recreation, and community focused organisation with the following vision statement
“To give residents of North-West Christchurch access to quality shared and multi-user facilities, recreation, community and social activities and services that are provided by organisations working together in an enduring partnership within the community”
We are based in the Northwest of Christchurch spanning the suburbs of Bishopdale, Northcote, Strowan, Harewood, Papanui, Bryndwr, Casebrook, parts of Redwood to the north and Merivale and St Albans to the east.
Our founding members are a partnership of six sporting clubs covering the sports of football, rugby, netball, and bowls, and include The Kind Foundation (YMCA) as a partner organisation. Our membership base is approximately 2000 but we expect this to grow as more sport and community groups join us.
Our way of doing things will be different. We will focus collectively on building community cohesion by delivering active participation which has the health and well-being of residents as a central pillar. One of the measures for success will be the numbers of participants across our clubs, the opportunities to play, and the level of support given to member clubs to develop and thrive and enable them to own their future.
Why a hub?
For many years there has been little or no investment in North-West Christchurch facilities. The ‘hub concept’ has been successfully implemented in many other NZ locations with the move away from single entity clubs and facilities to multi-purpose, multi-use facilities and shared services. Working together, we can achieve more!!
